About Steven

Steven's career began in midtown Manhattan on the staff of The New York Times for more than 16 years. Among several key positions in management, Steven was National Advertising Director responsible for $175 million of revenue generated from 10 national offices, including Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, while managing thirty employees from coast to coast. He is a four-time recipient of The New York Times Publisher Award for outstanding achievement in business.  


Steven has taken a dual path in publishing/media and the film business. Utilizing his knowledge and experience in new business development, Steven pursued media ventures including relocating to Los Angeles as West Coast Director of Rupert Murdoch's "Premiere, The Movie Magazine", where he was responsible for revenue generation and hosting co-branded screenings of upcoming studio and independent films. His understanding and passion for film enabled the opportunity to work in international distribution, where he negotiated licensing and co-production deals around the globe including Japan, Hong Kong, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Attendance at major film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin,Toronto, and th American Film Market in Los Angeles were mandatory. This experience provided him with an even broader understanding of marketing film projects on several emerging platforms. Steven co-produced the film "Where Truth Lies" starring John Savage, Malcolm McDowell, and Kim Cattrell as well as Executive Produced "Waiting For Yvette" starring Wendie Malick. He has worked on over 100 films which can be seen on television internationally in over 80 countries.


Other executive positions utilizing Steven's skills and success in revenue generation included Executive Vice President, Marketing for The Los Angeles Jewish Journal and Western Director of Fundraising for Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Israel. Steven is currently an independent business consultant. His clients have included former Olympic diver Greg Louganis, art historian and playwright Roy Doliner (The Sistine Secrets, Divine Right) , “America's Got Talent” sensation Branden James, and an array of international business executives looking to build their brands in the United States through strategic partnerships. Steven was also Chief Global Brand Manager for the iconic actor Val Kilmer up to and including "Top Gun Maverick".


Throughout Steven’s career he has had a secret passion for real estate and is now devoting 100% to his time as a licensed realtor, living in Palm Desert, California.100.


His work with non profits and foundations includes St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Jewish National Fund, Equality California, and the Southern California Chapter of Rutgers College Alumni.


Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Steven graduated from Rutgers College with a Bachelor of Arts. Selected as part of The New York Times Executive Training Program, he attended graduate courses at The Tuck School of Business in Dartmouth (New Hampshire) as well as Columbia University’s School of Management (NYC)..


Steven is married to Rabbi Dr J.B. Sacks for 19 years. They have one son, Evan Karash, 27, who resides in Woodland Hills.. CA


Steven enjoys, yoga, hiking, golf, opera, and inspirational readings.


Steven is on the Board of the Indian Wells Chapter of CHILDHELP, whose mission is to be there in support, guidance and education  for abused and abandoned children.
